Book By Sat Bir Singh Khalsa. Sat Bir Khalsa has been an associate professor of medicine at the Brigham and women's hospital. he is a well known author of the books like Your Brain on Yoga. Currently he works as associate professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School.


Sat Bir Singh Khalsa , a well know authority in the field of Mind-Body medicine has invested his time in analysis of the effective mechanisms, techniques and practice of Yoga and Meditataion for alleviation of mental illnesses and to achieve a healthy Mind Body balance. These techniques revolve around postures, stretching exercises and mindful meditation. In this book SBS Khalsa emphasizes the understanding of Yoga beyond its physicality and highlights its wholesome approach of integrating physical mental and emotional health. He has a research oriented approach based on the clinical study and evidence of yoga’s role in managing stress, improving mental health, and promoting emotional balance, all of which are vital for overall well-being. This holistic perspective highlights the integration of the body, mind, and spirit in the practice of yoga. The research revolves around the effectiveness of yoga in reducing stress and anxiety, pain management, insomnia and even cardio-Vascular diseases and since it is an evidence based research, the assurance of alleviation of ill health is ensured by providing solutions in the form of customized and mindful practice of asanas. In a way this book is also a guide for the healthcare providers, who are dealing with patients struggling with these particular health issues as Mr. Khalsa not just proves the relationship of inducing factors to these illnesses he also provides a solution by giving step by step yoga practices tailored for patients with mental health issues and physical disabilities.


Having practiced a yogic lifestyle himself since the year 1972, and benefitting from it, he has conducted clinical trials evaluating yoga interventions for insomnia, post traumatic stress disorder, chronic stress and anxiety disorder as he has been in the field of Mind-Body medicine in the capacity of Director of research for the Kundalini Research Institute and other strategic positions that helped him conduct the clinical research. Through his research he emphasises the importance of mindful meditation that can help in the development of greater self awareness, emotional control and mindfulness, thus reducing the production of stress triggers, that ultimately results in overall improvement of health. He introduces the reader to the scientific process of meditation, relaxation and breathing techniques and their positive outcomes on the psychosocial well being and the psychological attitudes. The focus of his work thus is on an overall improvement of health through customized yogasanas and mindful meditation to achieve a wholesome therapeutic effect. The topics on which he has written are detailed and elucidated with scientific terminology, which may be new for a yoga beginner. Unfortunately there are only these health problems that have been covered, while there is scope to embrace other health issues in it's ambit, readers might have to wait.


Overall, a great guide for not just the readers but also health practitioners, who can learn and understand the whole Mind- Body connection, that is the cradle of generation of certain health issues and is the solution too, for those who are seeking a wholesome and balanced health.
